"Truth is…I understand why he did what he did. And I forgive him for what it did to us. I do. And I just…I love him.”
Can we fucking talk about that? That IT right there? Sam doesn’t talk about what John did, what “he” did to them. He talks about what “it” did to them.
What the job did to them.
So many people sit here and talk about how John is this evil monster who never cared one lick about his sons or about the terrible choices he made or, fucking god forbid, he abused them (don’t even get me started there because he didn’t). Sam is here talking to his father from the past and admitting to him that he does forgive him, and that no matter how their lives turned out, Sam loves him anyway.
And you’re going to sit here and tell me that is the face of a boy who has been abused?
I understand. John could have done some better things as a parent when he chose the life of a hunter. But the life of a hunter?
It chose them.
And I believe that John did the best that he could with the circumstances that he had. And Sam forgives him for that, and loves him regardless.
And he doesn’t blame their dad. Maybe he did once, maybe he hated him for never choosing a different life.
But not once does he choose the words 'him' to accuse their life going the way it did. He blames the job. And the hunting life literally dropped into their beds one night in an explosion of fire and death and demons.
Sam is sitting here literally saying that he understands why John chose to lead the life they did. He understands.
And when he says that he loves his dad, there is so much heartache, so much love in his face because he misses him. And he won’t ever get him back and that pain eats at him.
How can anyone think so ill of John Winchester and doubt the love that bonded the family that is the Winchesters?
